Fish Creek Falls
One of the most popular destinations in Steamboat Springs is Fish Creek Falls. Just a few minutes from downtown Steamboat, you’ll get to experience wilderness coming to life on this one-of-a-kind day trip. After a short 1/4-mile walk down a gravel path, you’ll be able to indulge in pristine views of the lower falls. If you’re up for a bit of a hiking challenge, you can make your way toward the Upper Fish Creek Falls.
Nestled next to the Zirkel Wilderness Area, Mad Creek and its surrounding network of hiking trails is the perfect place to take the family this summer. Popular among Colorado mountain bikers, hikers, and horseback riders, you’ll enjoy wide open meadows filled with wildflowers at this fun destination. You will also have the opportunity to view the Mad Creek Barn, which is a two-story, pioneer-style log and frame construction that was built in 1905 by James Ratliff. The Forest Service didn’t end up purchasing the property until 1979. If you’re looking for a cultural outdoor experience in the Routt National Forest, be sure to visit Mad Creek.
Strawberry Park Hot Springs
If you’re a fan of hot tubs, you’ll love the Strawberry Park Hot Springs nestled right alongside Hot Springs Creek. As one of the most spectacular mineral springs in the world, you and your loved ones can enjoy relaxing in a 104-degree mineral water. Today, this facility is the perfect place for recreation and rejuvenation. If you plan on bringing young children, you’ll be pleased to know that the Strawberry Park Hot Springs offer waterslides, kiddie pools, a rock climbing wall, and an adults-only spring.
Burgess Creek Beach
At the base of the Steamboat Ski Area, you’ll find the cool and calming waters of Burgess Creek Beach. This beach offers little ones the perfect depth for splashing, as children can play in the sand and explore mini waterfalls on a beautiful summer day. Right next to the beach sits Gondola Square, which is known for outdoor movies and national touring acts.
Yampa River Tubing
A trip to Steamboat Springs would be incomplete without a tubing trip down the Yampa River. This is a favorite activity for locals and visitors, as it allows people the chance to experience downtown Steamboat from a comfortable inner tube. The float can be as long or short as you like, and there are plenty of riverside stops to enjoy such as parks, restaurants, and bars along the way. Tubing season usually begins in June and lasts through September, and the tubing conditions may be reliant on the amount of snowmelt and rainfall that Steamboat receives. If you plan on scheduling a tubing trip in Steamboat, make sure you read through the tips below.-
-Always check the river flow to see if the water levels are safe for tubing. Water levels that are above 700 cubic feet per second may not be safe for inexperienced swimmers.
-Life jackets are always recommended, especially when the river is sitting at a high water level.
-When it comes to footwear, consider wearing shoes with straps, rather than flip-flops. River shoes may also be available for rent at each tubing outfitter.
Tread Pioneers Museum
If you’re interested in a little history lesson of Steamboat Springs, make a point to stop by the Tread Pioneers Museum. Set in a 1908 Queen Anne-style Victorian home, this museum engages visitors from all over the world exploring the region’s legacy of Native Americans, ranching, and mining history. You can also sign up for a historical walking tour of downtown, as well as an Olympic heritage walking tour. These tours highlight the unique historic buildings of downtown Steamboat Springs, including the town square, power plant, courthouse, and newspaper building.
Strings Music Festival

Colorado is a haven for craft beer and brewing aficionados, and Steamboat Springs is no exception. Whether you’re a fan of Belgian wheat beers or sours, you’re sure to find a local brewery that fits your needs. Some of the most popular breweries in Steamboat Springs include:
Mountain Tap Brewery
Mountain Tap Brewery has 12 unique beers on tap, in addition to their variety of wines, Colorado-made hard cider, and non-alcoholic beverages. They also offer a wonderful selection of cuisine that includes wood-fired pizzas, salads, fish, and more.
Storm Peak Brewing Company
Storm Peak Brewing Company is another popular brewery in Steamboat Springs. When you visit their taproom, you’ll be able to explore 20 rotating beers on tap, in addition to a variety of cans and bombers.
Scenic Gondola Rides
In our opinion, there’s no better way to see Steamboat Springs than from a scenic gondola ride. This is a great trip to take for the whole family or a romantic couples retreat. During this activity, you can take a stunning gondola ride up 9,100 feet to Mt. Werner with up to eight passengers. Once at the top of the mountain, you can enjoy a drink and a bite to eat from a variety of restaurant options. During the summertime, we highly recommend riding the gondola back down to watch the sunset and moonrise for a breathtaking view of Steamboat Springs.
